Introduction Sneak Peek: What is the UX Design Field Book?
I started working in User Experience (UX) Design about 12 years ago.
Over those 12 years, I’ve had the great fortune to work with some amazing professionals doing great work.
I’ve helped set up design practices for world-class companies including Nordstrom, Western Union, E*TRADE, and CACI. I’ve worked on projects for the United Nations, the Prime Minister of Dubai, Vail Ski Resorts, the New Orleans Saints, and many more.
I’ve worked for various companies as a UX Engineer, UX/UI Designer, UX Researcher, Senior UX Researcher, UX/UI Manager, and now as UX/UI Director.
I’m lucky to have a largeish Twitter following (about 34,000 as of this writing) that’s allowed me to interact with those in every stage of their UX design careers.
With all the knowledge I’ve gained from my experience and interactions, the biggest secret about the UX world I have to share is this:
Everyone in UX – from the merely curious to the most experienced UX professionals – are constantly looking up even the most basic information on a daily basis.
New UX professionals want a basic overview of the UX world. The process, the lingo, the different facets of the practice, and a general idea of how to put it all together.
Tech professionals not working in UX may be simply curious. They may be working with a UX Design team for the first time. They may be simply curious why it takes a UX designer two weeks to create a set of icons.
Mid and Senior UX professionals may simply need to look up the name of a design principle, refresh their memory about some of the rules of UX writing, or get some guidance on whether a design is ethical at its core.
